I’ve been trying to hunt down some good sites for finding specific animal rescue groups. Essentially, what I was looking for is someplace you could input a breed and your location and the site would take care of the rest. Unfortunately, that’s harder than it sounds. Here’s what I’ve come up with.

The American Kennel Club Directory
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm
AKC has a basic list of breeds, but no sorting by region… and the offerings seem sparse.

This site does include a regional listing and covers a lot more ground. However, the site itself is hard to navigate, and a bit bare bones.

AdoptAPet’s site doesn’t list rescue groups or rescue sites, rather it allows the user to input some criteria and search for a particular type of dog. I liked the search mechanism, but the results seemed inadequate. I assume they require active involvement with various rescue agencies, so it’s understandable they may not have a lot of specific offerings up.

The best of the bunch. It has AdoptAPet’s search mechanism, a fairly robust selection, and it links to the website/contact info of the rescue group associated with the breed. There’s some small quibbles with the search interface, but overall it’s a well planned site.
